Hot Chocolate Breathing

Winter is in full swing, and to keep our groups warm we whipped up a batch of hot chocolate. We started with figuring out what ingredients were needed, then we practiced sequencing the steps, and then we practiced ADL skills like microwaving and pouring.

After we tried our delicious hot chocolate, we practiced hot chocolate breathing. Taking deep breaths can help regulate the nervous system and gives us time to pause and connect to our internal senses. Give it a try by following the steps below:

  1. pick up and hold your pretend cup of hot chocolate – mine has pretend whipped cream and marshmallows!
  2. breathe in your pretend hot chocolate – how does it smell?
  3. blow on it nice and slow, we don’t want it to spill!
  4. repeat x2 to get your pretend hot chocolate to the perfect temperature, then enjoy!
